Our Story

After our kids left the house to start their own life, we understood that it was time to start something new, we had a very clear plan for our dream that had to combine our passions in life, Ziv who loves mountain biking and outdoor adventures, and Keren who has a passion of designing interiors and lighting fixtures, we knew it has to be in Portugal, a place where the people and vibes touched us deeply. We started looking for a place that could tick all the boxes on our Wishlist.

After a year of searching, we came to Caldelas knowing very little about this amazing village and fell in love with the place, the house we bought, and the community.

Our vision
The Vision of ‘Lua de Caldelas’

Lua de Caldelas offers a boutique rural hospitality experience, the old ‘Chalé de igreja’ awakens to a new life, with an updated interior design, attractive to 21st century tourists. The ground floor’s ‘garage’ has been upgraded into a wine bar that combines the local tradition of Vinho Verde with fine dining from the Mediterranean. On the first-floor guests and visitors are welcome to Keren’s gallery showcasing her work and the works of fellow artists. Next to the gallery room, one can enjoy a relaxing massage at the therapy room. In the vast garden guests can relax in one of the hot tubs overlooking the view or spend a magical evening by the fire pit while sipping their wine. Guests can rent mountain bikes for a day with a planned route, supported with GPS guidance and on-route tips and assistance in any emergency. Small groups can get a fully guided holiday.

Lua de Caldelas is located at the heart of the beautiful village of Caldelas, home of the Termas de Caldelas, the therapeutic springs known from the Roman days.  For generations, the springs made Caldelas an ideal destination for people seeking cure and health.

The house that was called ‘casa de igreja’ for many years, and hosted the village priest, sits next to the church of Caldelas and enjoys a wonderful view. Caldelas seats at 150m above sea level and enjoys moderate weather all year round, yet it benefits from the proximity to the higher mountains to east and north where the Paneda-Geres National Park offers stunning vistas, immense beauty, rivers, streams and waterfalls that form one of the most attractive locations Portugal can offer to nature lovers, be it hikers, cyclists or other adventure seekers.
